Myths of Addiction

Psychotherapy is an investment in you. My aim is to help you reward yourself with the happiness you deserve in life. I endeavor to inspire hope that powerful and enduring change is possible and to assist in removing the obstacles that stand between you and success. I am here to support you and provide cutting edge tools to make your goals both achievable and timely. Some of these modalities include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Hypnotherapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques).

I believe that we all are a product of the interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors. Accordingly those facets contribute to the origins of our challenges as well as to their solutions. Along the way, I might challenge some of the traditionally held notions about treatment options, recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach is unnecessarily limiting. I will customize a unique program for you, working collaboratively to define measurable goals and what it’s going to take to get you there. My private practice includes teens, adults, and seniors. Services include individual, couples, and group therapy.

My over 20 years’ experience in the field tells me that if you’ve come this far, you are most likely ready for change. The benefits of a better life are within reach. That doesn’t mean that you necessarily have resolved all ambivalence; fear, resistance, and hesitation can be a natural part of the change process. I would be honored to assist you on the journey!

A Different Perspective on Addiction

A Non 12 Step Addiction Model

Do you or someone you love have any of these thoughts or experiences?

  • I’m a daily drinker but it doesn’t really seem to be affecting my work. Unfortunately, it is causing stress in my relationship.  Come to think of it, I’m afraid of what the doctor might find if I had my liver examined.
  • I just wish I could be a “normal” drinker, whatever that means.
  • I know everyone thinks heroin is a “serious” drug but I am a straight “A” college student and heroin user;  but I feel trapped: the highs aren’t really there anymore, yet I dread the miserable withdrawals. I keep thinking this is my last time doing it, only to start again tomorrow.
  • I probably should want to stop doing drugs for health and other “right” reasons;  to be honest I’m just tired of blowing all my money on it!
  • I make reasonable and rational decisions in most areas of my life;  why can’t I seem to muster the will power to say no to my addictive behavior?
